Parental Tips For Bed Wetting Kids

April 30th, 2011 by Anders Eriksson

Parenting is a tough job. There are certain things that parents should have to deal with when it comes to their kids. One of them is the case of bed wetting.

bed wetting or enuresis is a common condition that affect most kids from three years old and below. It may also be common in some older kids and even in adolescents. It is characterized by the habit of children unknowingly urinating on their bed during sleep. bed wetting is a condition that can greatly affect the kids. It is up to the parents to treat this condition the right way so as to make the kids feel embarrassed or ashamed about it. Here are some parental tips that might help.

Punishment does not work.
Parents should be aware that punishing a child for bed wetting would not be effective in helping them outgrow the habit. It is something that the kids usually do not have control of. Even worse, kids might feel guilty and insecure whenever they wet their beds at night. This can develop into serious psychological and emotional issues later on. Positive reinforcement would usually work better than punishment when it comes to bed wetting.

Make kids follow a sleeping schedule.
One way for parents to help their kids is to establish a regular bedtime routine. Following routines can usually help the body to develop better bladder control over time. A regular sleeping schedule can help condition kids when its time to sleep and the time to pee.

Knowledge can give you a real advantage. To make sure you’re fully informed about Bed Wetting, keep reading.

Limit their liquid intake before sleeping.
Since bed wetting is all about bladder control, parents can help their kids stay dry at night by limiting the kid’s liquid intake during dinner time. It may be good enough to help prevent some kids from bed wetting at night. But don’t go so far as to totally restrict the kids from taking any liquids since this might sometimes also do more harm than good.

Help Kids Keep A Bed Wetting Journal
Doctors found out that by giving children better control over their problems, they are more likely to take more responsibility for trying to solve them. Such problems may include bed wetting. By having a bed wetting journal or calendar that kids can see, this might help them keep track and better be able to have a hand in trying to control their bed wetting at night.

A bed wetting journal or calendar can be as simple as a calendar where parents can put a star whenever a child experiences a dry night. As simple as it is, a bed wetting journal can help a child feel a sense of accomplishment every time he or she makes it dry on some nights and then get rewarded for it by a star.

Make sleeping time pleasant for the kids.
Stress and fear is one of the main causes of bed wetting in kids. When the kids feel scared or nervous right before they sleep, it can cause them to wet their beds at night. Parents can help avoid this by making their kids feel comfortable as well as assured right before bedtime.

This might include refraining from scolding them or making them feel guilty for whatever they may have done during the day.

If you’ve picked some pointers about Bed Wetting that you can put into action, then by all means, do so. You won’t really be able to gain any benefits from your new knowledge if you don’t use it.

Acupuncture’s Acceptance in America

April 29th, 2011 by Anders Eriksson

The following article covers a topic that has recently moved to center stage–at least it seems that way. If you’ve been thinking you need to know more about it, here’s your opportunity.

Acupuncture has been used in China and Japan for centuries, and was introduced into Europe in the 1700s by Jesuit missionaries. However, it has been popular in the United States for only the past twenty or thirty years. Initially, its most dramatic and effective results here in America were to reduce or eliminate pain, where some patients undergoing surgery had no anesthesia whatsoever. Their pain was eliminated during the surgery by use of acupuncture needles.

The National Institute of Health has been interested in both the use and the growing interest in acupuncture, and has had a number of conferences whose main subject is the use of acupuncture. Interestingly, thousands of traditional physicians, dentists, and other health practitioners now use acupuncture for pain relief and other symptoms. Also, currently more than 10 million adults in the U.S. have used acupuncture at some time in the past, or are using it currently. (Though acupuncture is also perfectly safe for children, and frequently children respond more quickly to the treatments than adults.)

It seems like new information is discovered about something every day. And the topic of Accupuncture is no exception. Keep reading to get more fresh news about Accupuncture.

The National Institute of Health has looked at many studies on the effectiveness of acupuncture to relieve a specific set of symptoms. There are some outstanding successes, but making any sweeping statement is difficult because many of the studies are not easy to design. Or, more properly, there is some heated discussion on what studies have been so carefully designed that the results are beyond question. But there is general agreement that acupuncture is highly effective for a wide range of symptoms, including pain and nausea after operations, headaches, menstrual cramps, asthma, osteoarthritis, etc. Research is continuing and new results are coming out quite often. One of the best ways to keep up is to search the Internet for your symptom of interest together with the key word “acupuncture”. Also look for websites sponsored by NCCAM, a branch of the National Institute of Health that investigates alternative medicines.

Since the main equipment of an acupuncture practitioner are needles, the needles in an acupuncture office are regulated by the government to ensure safety of the needles. The FDA approves their use by licensed practitioners in acupuncture clinics. The requirements are that the needles are sterile needles and one time use only, so no one need be concerned about the problem with needle contamination. The acupuncture needles are regulated by the same rules as those in your doctor’s office. To avoid any concern, watch carefully that the acupuncture practitioner opens a new, sealed package for each patient and swabs the insertion sites with some kind of disinfectant before inserting the needle (such as alcohol, traditionally used by nurses).

This survey is intended to give an overview of how the traditional medical community and also the institutes of the government have given credibility to the use of acupuncture. Acupuncture has evolved from an interesting import from China to an established technique that many doctors recommend, or have even become trained in the technique themselves. Acupuncture clinics and practitioners now have standards set up and regulated by the government in order to ensure the safety of the clients. It has become an accepted part of the mainstream American health system.

Easy Guidelines on Fighting Food Allergy through Allergens-Free Diet

April 28th, 2011 by Anders Eriksson

So what is Food Allergies really all about? The following report includes some fascinating information about Food Allergies–info you can use, not just the old stuff they used to tell you.

Some people are not aware that they have food allergy. It can be difficult to diagnose especially if allergic reactions are not apparent before. Symptoms of food allergy only appear if you exceed the tolerable amount of foods you are allergic to.

Food allergy lets your body react as if some foods are harmful. The immune system of the body then creates antibodies for fighting back food allergens which triggers the food allergy. Once the person eats the food, touches the food, or even inhales its particles, chemicals including histamine are released by the body to protect it from allergens. Allergic symptoms can affect your cardiovascular system, skin, gastrointestinal tract, or respiratory system. Food allergy symptoms are characterized by wheezing, abdominal pain, swelling, itchiness in the throat, tongue, or lips, itchy skin rashes, and runny nose.

Food allergies need to follow special diets. These diets do not contain food allergens as much as possible. It is advised to consult your doctor or dietitian especially if you want to eliminate some types of food from your original diet or begin a specialized diet. It is because you might need some adjustments on the new meal plan or replace any lost nutrients by taking nutritional supplements.

1. Milk allergy diets. You need to eliminate milk and dairy products containing milk. These are good sources of Vitamin D and calcium. So it is necessary to replace it with other kinds of food such as soy products, spinach, and broccoli, also enriched with these nutrients. The labeled ingredients of the products must be always checked. You can also use almond, rice, or soy milk, instead of cow’s milk. Non-dairy goods which include some margarines, cheese, yogurt, chocolate, and ice cream.

2. Egg allergy diets. Young children, adults, and infants are more prone to egg allergies. Elimination of eggs and other products with egg contents is needed. Also check labels carefully because some egg alternatives has egg white contents.

3. Peanut allergy diets. Peanut allergies are one of the most fatal and are potentially serious among all types of food allergies. It contains food allergens most common for triggering allergic reactions. Most commercial foods such as ethnic foods, candy, and baked foods contain peanuts, especially if prepared only by one manufacturer.

Now that we’ve covered those aspects of Food Allergies, let’s turn to some of the other factors that need to be considered.

4. Tree nuts allergy diets. All products with tree nuts ingredients must be totally avoided even though only one nut triggers your allergic reactions. Some shampoos and lotions also contain tree nuts. Carefully check the product labels.

5. Fish allergy diet. Fish have different species but contains similar proteins. You need to eliminate all kinds of fish from your diet, except if your allergist has already determined the specie that triggers your food allergy. It is also advisable not to visit seafood restaurants.

6. Shellfish allergy diets. Shellfish have different species but contains similar proteins. You need to eliminate all kinds of shellfish from your diet, except if your allergist has already determined the specie that triggers your food allergy.

7. Soy allergy diets. Soybeans are considered legumes which include kidney beans, navy beans, black beans, string beans, chickpeas, pinto beans, peanuts, carob, licorice, and lentils. This is widely used for processing foods, so make sure to avoid such products.

8. Wheat allergy diets. Wheat proteins are called gluten and wheat made foods are considered as American diet staples, which you need to avoid. Read the labels of the products carefully.

Never forget these diet guidelines to fight food allergies successfully. After all nothing beats caution and preparedness.

That’s how things stand right now. Keep in mind that any subject can change over time, so be sure you keep up with the latest news.

Birth Control Methods

April 27th, 2011 by Anders Eriksson

The only way to keep up with the latest about Birth Control is to constantly stay on the lookout for new information. If you read everything you find about Birth Control, it won’t take long for you to become an influential authority.

Birth control methods were created to solve the problem countless families are encountering. Family planning is a method of spacing your children. Birth control methods also allow people to have the maximum number of children they can provide for.

The responsibility of family planning is not just in the hands married couples but also young people. Birth control methods and options should be known to them to prevent teenage pregnancy.

How many of us have dreamed of their perfect family? A lot of newly weds often say that they want a huge family with a lot of children. But as reality sinks in and gives them a wake up call they slowly realize that it is not always the more the merrier. The truth is most of the time it’s the more the uglier, because of today’s rapidly growing population jobs are becoming scarcer, urban areas are becoming smaller and more crowded and the world is running out of resources to meet the needs of the growing population of man.

It may have been said in the early years of the earth that we should go forth and multiply but up to what extent was not really discussed. Since that time people have not been looking into the adverse effect of a huge population and a small planet.

No one has even noticed that there are options for Birth control methods that are ready for them to use.

To solve this problem countless ways have been invented and promoted to encourage people to plan their family. Family planning is the method of spacing your children over a period of time to prevent yourself from having a hard time raising them.

For some people the main concern that they have is the age gap of the children but the number of children they have. Even if you are a hard worker if you have twenty mouths to feed it will drive you nuts just as having one child in the family and also having no job. It’s a nightmare for some people to raise their family because there’s just too many to take care of.

Truthfully, the only difference between you and Birth Control experts is time. If you’ll invest a little more time in reading, you’ll be that much nearer to expert status when it comes to Birth Control.

The age and number of the children largely out numbers that of the disposable income of the household.

In fact some families resort to putting their children up for adoption not because they don’t love them but because they do and they don’t want them to suffer so much.

It is sad when you think about how it could’ve been prevented by simple family planning. Some people are afraid to understand family planning because there had been no real attempts to study how it works and for who it works for. Some people remain ignorant to the fact just can’t say no. The responsibility of family planning not only falls into the hands of couples in marriage but also young people who engage in pre-marital sexual acts.

Birth control methods and options should be known to them to prevent teenage pregnancy.

Birth control should be more than just something that we use to prevent pregnancy.

It should also be a responsibility that we are willing to carry on until we retire and we should take part in educating children about the importance of proper spacing.

That’s the latest from the Birth Control authorities. Once you’re familiar with these ideas, you’ll be ready to move to the next level.

History of Aromatherapy

April 27th, 2011 by Anders Eriksson

The following paragraphs summarize the work of Aromatherapy experts who are completely familiar with all the aspects of Aromatherapy. Heed their advice to avoid any Aromatherapy surprises.

In its exact definition, aromatherapy is the process of using volatile plant oils in order to treat not only the physical well being of a person but also his or her psychological and mental health.
From decades past, apothecary drawers have been filled with essential oils that have been used in the treatment of diseases and other health problems. In fact, the practice of using oils has been in place for nearly a thousand years. It was however only in the 20th century when the term aromatherapy was used.

It started with the Chinese, who are among the first cultures to incorporate the practice into their traditions. They use plant oils and burns incense to help create balance within the body and harmony with nature.

Later on, the Egyptians adopted the practice and created an old distiller prototype which extracts cedarwood oil crudely. The oils that they extract from the plant are then sold in markets in their country. There are some that claim that Persia and India were the ones that invented the distillation process but of course nothing has been proven yet.

As time passed, the Egyptians started to extract oils from different plants. In addition to cedarwoos, they use clove, nutmeg, cinnamon and myrrh. These oils were also used in the embalming of their dead. In fact, when an Egyptian tomb was opened back in the early 20th century, remains and traces of these plants were seen in some parts of the body. Archaeologists were even able to smell the scent.

It seems like new information is discovered about something every day. And the topic of Aromatherapy is no exception. Keep reading to get more fresh news about Aromatherapy.

The Egyptians also used the scents and the oils in some of their rituals, especially those that are spiritual in nature. Some also used the oils as medicines while the women used them as perfumes and cosmetic. In fact, the word perfume is thought to have come from the latin word fumum, which means smoke. There are claims that men also use fragrance like women but they have an interesting method of doing it. They will place a solid cone of perfume on their heads, which they will gradually melt until the perfume and scent cover their whole bodies.

The Greeks also used perfumes but of course everything was credited to the Gods of their mythology. Still the use of plant oils as perfume took a life of its own and soon Megallus made a perfume from myrrh, which is a fatty-oil. His perfume called the Megaleion not only had aromatic benefits, it can also heal wounds and has an anti-inflammatory property towards the skin. It was also the Greeks that established the medicinal purposes of plants. In fact, the father of medicine, Hippocrates, practiced the use of plants for its aromatic and medicinal benefits.

Armed with the knowledge that they have gotten from the civilizations of the Egyptians and the Greeks, Roman Discorides wrote a book called De Materia Medica, which essays the different properties of as much as 500 plants.

In the 11th century, a process called coiled cooling pipe was invented. This had a large impact on the distillation of essential oils. Avicenna, a Persian, was the one who created the prototype, which allowed steam and vapor from the plant to cool down so that it can be extracted better and faster than other distilling machines. Because of this invention, the focus once again went to the benefits of essential plant oils.

Kid’s Birthday Party Planning Checklist

April 24th, 2011 by Anders Eriksson

When planning a kid’s birthday party, parents would carefully consider giving time to all the preparations needed. Aside from that they should also try to follow a timetable for the tasks to make sure that everything is organized and planned for very carefully. One of the best ways to do this is to come up with a birthday party checklist.

A birthday party checklist is important because it can help parents get their act together in a more organized manner. Having a checklist to follow can help them keep track of their tasks and try not to forget anything else important for the party. Here is a sample of the possible things that parents should include in the checklist three to four weeks before the actual event.

Three To Four Weeks Prior
There are some things that parents should consider doing three to four weeks before the birthday party. Most of them may affect the subsequent tasks later on. First of all, there is the birthday theme and décor to consider. This can be done with the help of the birthday celebrant to pick and decide the appropriate theme for the event.

After deciding on the theme, parents should now try to come up with the budget for the party to determine what and what they can afford to include. A general budget for the mean time would be fine. Next up would be to consider the number of guests that may be coming to the party. Again, this would greatly depend on the general budget the parents have come up with. It is also important to consider if the party is good enough to invite quite number of guests or limit the invitees to make the budget work.

How can you put a limit on learning more? The next section may contain that one little bit of wisdom that changes everything.

It is also three to four weeks prior to the birthday party that parent should already be ordering the supplies needed for the party. This will include decorations, equipment, etc. Food and drinks as well as what would be included in the party menu should already be decided upon in order to complete the grocery list. Party invitations should also be made and then given out to the invitees. If there are guests that may come from far distances, early notice might even be necessary to allow them to prepare themselves.

Two Weeks Prior
Around two weeks before the birthday party, parents can also start ordering party favors that will be given out to the guests. When the games and other activities have already been planned out, buying the things needed to make them possible should also be undertaken. If the birthday party includes having a hosted program, parents should already try to search for places where things such as sound or film equipment can be rented. It may also be time to look for able volunteers that may help out during the party proper to make things go smoothly.

One Week Before Party
A week before the party is the time to do the general cleaning, if the party venue is the home. Parents should make sure to clear the living room or the backyard clear from possible hazards and obstacles. Safety is important especially if the party would involve children. Ordering the birthday cake can be done a week before the kid’s birthday party.

It would also be time to buy some of the needed non-perishable food items and beverages. The candles and matches should also be made ready at about this time.

Now that wasn’t hard at all, was it? And you’ve earned a wealth of knowledge, just from taking some time to study an expert’s word on Kids Birthday Party.

What Is Stuttering

April 22nd, 2011 by Anders Eriksson

Stuttering is a speech disorder where the individual’s natural flow of speech is disrupted by frequent repetitions or prolongations of certain sounds, syllables and words. Sometimes, this makes it impossible to even start a word.

Aside from difficulty in speaking, this is usually accompanied by raid eye blinks, tremors of the lips or jaw and in the upper body. Stress makes the situation even worse when he or she has to speak to a large crowd or talk on the phone. However, this changes when one is singing or speaking alone.

This disorder is also known as stammering. It should be pointed out that this is different from two other speech disorders namely cluttering and spasmodic dysphonia.

Studies show that there are 3 million Americans that stutter. This starts at the age of 2 to 6 since this is the time that they are still developing language. This ratio between boys and girls is 3 to 1. The good news is that many children outgrow this and only a small percentage of those who suffer are adults.

To prove a point, some of the best speakers in the world that had stuttering in their early childhood include Bruce Willis, Carly Simon, James Earl Jones and Mel Tillis. You may not believe it but these people overcame this challenge.

But what causes people to stutter? There are many forms and some scientists believe that this is genetic because it is developmental. Others argue that this is neurogenic which means that signal problems between the brain and the nerves causes this to happen. As a result, the brain is not able to coordinate properly the different components of speech. This can also happen if the person suffered from a stroke or other form of brain injury.

So far, we’ve uncovered some interesting facts about Stuttering. You may decide that the following information is even more interesting.

Stuttering may also originate in the mind or what is known as psychogenic but this only accounts for a small number of sufferers.

The best person to diagnose if you are stuttering is with the help of a speech language pathologist even if it is quite obvious by how you speak. This person is trained to conduct a variety of tests so it will be easy to prescribe proper treatment.

But at present, there is no available cure for stuttering. Treatment can only improve the person’s condition given that the majority of those who stutter are ?behavioral.?

The program is designed to teach the patient to monitor the rate at which they speak. They will also learn to say words slower usually short phrases first until such time that they can speak much faster and longer sentences. Follow up sessions are needed to prevent relapse making this a life long problem.

Aside from the patient, the parents should also be educated so they know what to do when you stutter. It is best that they provide a relaxed home environment that allows the child to speak. If the child should stutter, they should refrain from criticizing as this has negative effects. Parents can also help by speaking slowly and in a relaxed manner as this will also be followed.

Some doctors have utilized medications and electronic devices to treat stuttering. Unfortunately, the use of drugs often causes side effects and relying on a machine makes it hard to carry around especially when there are other people around.

I hope that reading the above information was both enjoyable and educational for you. Your learning process should be ongoing–the more you understand about any subject, the more you will be able to share with others.

Panic Attacks ? Out With the Myths

April 22nd, 2011 by Anders Eriksson

When you’re learning about something new, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the sheer amount of relevant information available. This informative article should help you focus on the central points.

Misinformation does not only create vague pictures of a condition but will also likely cause people to believe things that do not actually exist. Among those conditions that typically receive serious amounts of myths are psychological and behavioral disorders, partly because psychological conditions are often hard to understand and seem mysterious. In this article, we would try to debug the myths of one of the more common behavioral conditions?panic attacks.

People with panic attacks are crazy. Crazy is never a good term for people with psychological conditions and people with panic attacks are hardly crazy. They may seem deranged and a bit psychotic for some people when they experience attacks of panic and terror but this does not suggest that they are.

As if to add to the insult, people with panic attacks are sometimes perceived to have schizophrenia, the most advanced form of psychosis which is marked by severe auditory and visual hallucination as well as aggravated delusions and dysfunctional thoughts. Clearly, there is no relationship between people who feel like they are “going crazy” when undergoing attacks and people who have advanced (and even minor) psychological conditions.

People with panic attacks lose control. Wrong. Panic attacks do not rob a person his sense of control. While a person’s thoughts may seem distorted for a while during attacks due to physical symptoms that lend themselves towards this possibility such as shortness of breath and heart attack-like symptoms, this does not mean that the person is losing grip of the reality. Anxiety which normally accompanies panic attacks is a body’s way to tell you that something is going wrong. Since this is a defense mechanism, it is not dangerous to anyone, not even the person undergoing the panic attack.

If your Anxiety Panic Attacks facts are out-of-date, how will that affect your actions and decisions? Make certain you don’t let important Anxiety Panic Attacks information slip by you.

It is good to remember that panic attack happens only in the mind, it may, in fact, be unnoticeable for people surrounding the person during the attack. What exacerbates the attack is the person’s conscious thought that it could cause embarrassment or harm to other people. It is the sense of losing control of one’s self that makes the condition worse, a thought that is manufactured in the brain, never the total lack of sense of control.

People with panic attacks have chronic heart disorders. While this may be partly true due to the link between mitral valve prolapse and panic attacks, this does not make the assertion entirely valid. People have good reasons to believe that they are having heart attacks or heart failures when they experience episodes of panic attacks since some of the symptoms of both conditions are similar. But such symptoms are perfectly rational when seen from the viewpoint of elevated fear.

For example, people subjected under conditions that stimulate fear experience tightening of the chest, faster heart beat, profuse perspiration, shortness of breath and increased respiration. All these signs are also symptoms of heart attacks which make it easy for most people to believe that instead of having a disorder of the mind, they are having dysfunctional hearts. But then again, similarity in symptoms does not make two completely different conditions alike.

Myths often offer a semblance of the reality that is not hard to believe in. But do not be fooled. Knowing what is the exact truth and not the half lies may serve you well when dealing with conditions that root from and are aggravated by thoughts.

That’s the latest from the Anxiety Panic Attacks authorities. Once you’re familiar with these ideas, you’ll be ready to move to the next level.
