Taking Care of Your Baby Using Video Baby Monitors

August 31st, 2010 by Anders Eriksson

If you’re seriously interested in knowing about Baby Monitors, you need to think beyond the basics. This informative article takes a closer look at things you need to know about Baby Monitors.

Your baby is the most precious being in your life. And since babies can’t still tend for themselves, it is your responsibility to give the love, care and security that they need. Sadly, even though they are your topmost priority, there are still other things in the priority list that need your attention. So how do you go on with your daily activities without sacrificing the quality of security, love, and care that you need to give your baby? You can use video baby monitors.

Baby Monitors

Basically, baby monitors are devices that parents can use to be able to observe their baby even if they are not in the same room. The most simple baby monitors make use of a simplex transmitter and receiver system. In the baby’s room, a transmitter device with microphone is installed while the parents have a receiver device with a speaker. Any sound the baby makes in the room will be transmitted directly to the device held by the parents. If something is wrong, the parents will definitely know about it.

But baby monitors have already come a long way. Today, different baby monitors have been developed which make use not only of sounds but of images as well. A great example of this is the video baby monitor.

Video baby monitors make use of cameras instead of just the usual transmitter with microphone device. A camera or a number of cameras are installed in the baby’s room and live video feed are transmitted to a TV or LCD receiver.

These video devices can either be wired or wireless devices. The most basic application of a wired video baby monitor is to provide live video feed from the room of the baby to the room of the parents. This is most useful during the sleeping hours of the parents. With the video baby monitor installed, you can continually monitor your baby without having to stand up and going to your baby in the next room.

I trust that what you’ve read so far has been informative. The following section should go a long way toward clearing up any uncertainty that may remain.

The wireless video baby monitor however has a larger scope of use. Since it is wireless, you can go anywhere around the house while bringing an LCD monitor to keep track of the status of your baby. You can be in the kitchen or in the garden and still be able to keep an eye over the baby since you are not limited with a wire. It is important to know though that these devices also have a limit to their range.

Special Features

Some video baby monitors have special features. This is mostly based on the manufacturer and provider of your baby monitor.

One great feature of some video baby monitors is the night vision capability. During night time when the lights are already switched off, you can still continue the surveillance of your baby. Low lit environments and dark rooms is not a problem with the help of the night vision feature.

Another special feature that some video baby monitor provides is the baby cam feature. With the use of the Internet, parents will be able to keep track of their baby. A few simple clicks on the computer and the baby cam can be accessed anywhere and anytime.

This is most useful for those parents who have to go to the office and leave the baby with a babysitter or nanny. Even at work, you can keep on monitoring the well-being of your youngling.

Types Of Child Custody

August 31st, 2010 by Anders Eriksson

Are you looking for some inside information on Child Custody? Here’s an up-to-date report from Child Custody experts who should know.

Once a divorce proceedings start to run, the ultimate question asked by everyone is: who will get primary child custody?

Together with the legal arguments and other considerations in nullifying a marriage, there are other legal questions brought to the court. One of the most important, of course, is the decision on who will get primary custody of the children.

In most cases, the divorcing parents can come into a mutual agreement. Setting aside their differences, and with the help of their respective attorneys, they arrive on a shared custody.

Basically, they would agree to a 50/50 legal as well as the physical custody of the children. With this mutual decision, these kinds of parents have nothing in their minds but the welfare of their children.

However, not all cases close this way. There are many disputes on child custody that do not come to an immediate resolution. Some divorced parents cannot see eye to eye, given the many legal arguments and law interpretations.

Like any other disputes, these cases are filed and settled in court. There is a hearing, and sometimes it can become protracted and expensive on both parties. It is good to familiarize oneself on the various types of child custody settlements.

Legal custody

This grants the guardian the right to make long-standing decisions regarding the future of the child or children. These would include all the key aspects of the well-being of the child ? education, medical care, religious upbringing and others.

Usually, both parents are awarded joint legal custody, unless one of them is found to be unfit or unable to make the right decisions. Legal custody is not the same as physical custody which concerns issues on where the child will reside.

Once you begin to move beyond basic background information, you begin to realize that there’s more to Child Custody than you may have first thought.

Physical custody

This is the right granted to the everyday care of the child. The parent with physical custody can dictate where the child will live.

The latest custody provisions give physical custody to the custodial parent and grant visitation rights and legal custody to the non-custodial parent. These visitation rights also offer exclusive time with the child every other weekend, alternating major holidays, and a number of weeks during vacations.

Sole custody

Sole custody gives the custodial parent exclusive physical and legal rights over the child. However, this type is rare, and is generally restricted to cases where one parent is deemed in poor condition or is deemed irresponsible (drug addiction or child abuse, etc).

Except for granted periods of visitation with the child, the non-custodial parent does not have the physical nor legal custody rights on the child.

Joint custody

A joint custody order has two parts ? joint legal custody and joint physical custody.

Joint legal custody means both parents will share in major decisions regarding the child. The custody order spells out the issues where the parents must share decisions.

The time the child spends with each parent is referred in the joint physical custody. The amount of time shared is flexible and depends on the arrangement of both parents. They can be equally divided, or one may only have agreed time periods.

In the event both parents cannot correctly assume child custody (substance abuse, mental health problems, incarceration, etc.), the court can arrange temporary guardianship or foster care for the child.

Acupuncture Could Help You Finally Manage Your Stress Levels

August 30th, 2010 by Anders Eriksson

Today’s world can fill the very busy individual with a lot of stress. Without some way of removing this stress from your system, you’re placing yourself in danger from a lot of stress-related diseases. You might suffer from insomnia or headaches or very serious heart diseases.

You could take anti-stress pills to help you relax but, like me, you might also be worried about the side effects these pills could have. The good news is that you could try acupuncture at least once to see if it could help you manage the stress. It certainly couldn’t hurt to try acupuncture if all you’re after is stress relief.

If you find it doesn’t work for you, then you can just easily stop taking acupuncture treatments. If it works, though, then you can say you’ve found a good treatment for stress that doesn’t rely on those dangerous chemicals and pills.

How does sticking needles into your body help manage the stress?

In traditional Chinese medicine, much of the treatments depend on an understanding of the balance in our bodies and its internal organs. The sicknesses we sometimes develop are seen to be caused by imbalances in our lifestyles and environment. Stress is also affected by this imbalance. That is why when there is something wrong with your body, you’d typically have less of an ability to deal with stress. You’d get more irritable and find it really to difficult to relax.

The information about Acupuncture presented here will do one of two things: either it will reinforce what you know about Acupuncture or it will teach you something new. Both are good outcomes.

By sticking these very thin needles past the surface of our skin, the acupuncturist stimulates nerves in our body. These nerves send signals to our brain and scientists believe that the brain then releases its natural painkillers into our system. This immediately causes a feeling of relaxation for many people.

The needles could also help your body by stimulating its circulation. With the circulation between the organs of the body improved, a lot of the body’s wastes could be cleansed properly. Your organs would also receive the full benefit of the oxygen from your lungs making its way into the cells of your body without any blockages. This makes your organs much healthier and leaves you feeling much better in the long term as well.

You can think of a session with the acupuncturist as very much like massage therapy. A good massage would help give you a very relaxing sleep that night and an acupuncturist could help you with your sleep as well. You might immediately start to feel drowsy as soon as the right nerves are stimulated by the acupuncturist’s needles.

You might be asking yourself how you’d be able to relax if you’re suffering from the pain of the needles attached to your body. What you might not realize is that because of the thinness of the needles, you would hardly feel anything. The most that many people claim they feel is a kind of tingling feeling where the needles are. And that is actually a sign that the process is working,

Acupuncture is a practice that helps you use your bodies’ own ability to manage stress properly. This leaves you healthier, and more importantly, prevents any of the serious diseases that could come from unbalanced, stressful lifestyles.

It might not be something to replace regular trips to the doctor but with its many possible benefits, acupuncture might be worth trying out very soon.

Now you can be a confident expert on Acupuncture. OK, maybe not an expert. But you should have something to bring to the table next time you join a discussion on Acupuncture.

Vital Notes about Different Aspects of Stuttering

August 30th, 2010 by Anders Eriksson

In today’s world, it seems that almost any topic is open for debate. While I was gathering facts for this article, I was quite surprised to find some of the issues I thought were settled are actually still being openly discussed.

Stuttering is considered as a kind of speech disorder that manifests through a person’s hesitation to continue what they are saying, repetition of syllables or whole words and phrases and prolongation of sounds while they are speaking. This is usually experienced by children from ages two to five because this is the stage when they are only learning to form sounds, words and complete sentences.

There are some people who suffer from this due to genetic factors, but there are no proven studies to claim this point. Other people suffer from this speech disorder as a result of neurological events like traumatic brain injuries and stroke. The case is sometimes considered a psychological problem. It can get worse when the stutterer is faced with many stress factors or they are dealing with anxiety and nervousness. There are cases when people can sing without any hints that they have the condition and you will only notice such once they begin speaking in a conversational manner.

Symptoms

The known symptoms of this condition include extended pauses while delivering your message, creating long sounds in between words, repetition of words or certain parts of the words. If you have this case, you may also find it hard or feel hesitant in starting your phrases. There are also physical manifestations like too much blinking of the eyes, jaw jerking and involuntary movements of certain body parts without intending to do such.

Treatment

You can see that there’s practical value in learning more about Stuttering. Can you think of ways to apply what’s been covered so far?

If the condition is only mild, you must learn how to handle it on your own. It will help if you are going to find out what’s causing the problem. What makes you feel nervous when you are talking with other people? Why can’t you speak to a large crowd or why can’t you look directly to the eyes of the person you are talking to?

After you have accepted that there really is a problem and that you can’t handle it on your own, you can go to a professional speech language pathologist to help you in this case. They can recommend you good medications to help you at the start. This must be backed up with therapy sessions and you should also initiate to practice facing your fears as you progress through the process.

If you are dealing with a child who has this problem, you have to guide them by giving them time to finish what they have to say. Allow them to talk in a slow manner and do not interrupt that much as they try to convey their message.

Both adults and children should also try doing regular breathing exercises. It will also help if you are going to practice singing your thoughts. While you are still in the process of finding a cure, you must avoid situations where you will feel very stressed out because this will only aggravate your condition.

Studies are still being conducted to find the right and the best cures for stuttering. Even if this is the case, this must not stop you from researching and applying good tips on what you can do to overcome the condition or help someone who is suffering from this.

Birth Control Through the Times

August 28th, 2010 by Anders Eriksson

The following article covers a topic that has recently moved to center stage–at least it seems that way. If you’ve been thinking you need to know more about it, here’s your opportunity.

Birth control is and has always been one of the most celebrated and controversial topics in the history of man. It is because in almost all eras and generations, people have always had opposing beliefs on it.

In the bible after the great flood that wiped out almost all of human existence, God made a promise that no matter what happens he will not ever again destroy what he created. He also told Noah and his children to go forth and multiply.

Now I don’t know if the idea was to populate the world or just simply multiply without thinking about anything but one thing is for sure. We are successful in multiplying fast. In the United States alone population is expected to grow up to 12 million births in 2025, some people think that we still have a long way to go until 2025 but when you think about it how many infants are born every year and with the rapidly depleting resources that we have here on our planet just imagine what could happen in 2025.

People have become conscious of this reality a long time ago, in fact people as far as the age of ancient Egypt have become aware of the drastic effect of a growing population and depleting resources. Ancient Egyptians have the earliest records of recorded instructions on how to make contraceptive pessary. Other early forms of contraceptives are coitus interruptus and ingestion of herbs that are believed to be abortifacient.

Though the threats of overpopulation are real, the concept of birth control still remains to be one of the taboos of modern society. Advocates, religious organizations and private citizens that are against birth control call it an abomination of what God has given. But even with the antagonism of some people, it has stopped the rise and move of birth control.

In present times, to balance out the grievances of the pro-birth control sector and the anti-birth control sector, a truce has been drawn between the two and they left the decision to the people. Because of this development people can now freely choose which method they like to use.

I trust that what you’ve read so far has been informative. The following section should go a long way toward clearing up any uncertainty that may remain.

There are a lot of methods of birth control available to people nowadays.

There are two kinds of birth control approaches available to couples, first one is the artificial method (this is he method that is raising controversy in some sectors) and the Natural method (said to be where Pro and Anti compromised) both methods can be learned and applied any time during the course of the couples relationship.

Some of the commonly known artificial methods are Physical method, barrier method, hormonal, intrauterine method and Ormeloxifene (Centchroman). These methods involve intake of hormones that hinder the sperm from reaching the egg cell, using a physical barrier to prevent the transfer of sperms and operating on the reproductive organ to divert the pathway the sperm of the egg cell is taking.

These are the methods that some anti-birth control advocates call playing God, since we deviate the natural occurrence from happening.

Natural birth control is also available to people who do not believe that science should dip their fingers in the natural ways of man. Some of the methods include behavioral methods, fertility awareness, coitus interruptus, avoiding vaginal intercourse and abstinence during fertile weeks.

Natural or artificial the important thing about birth control is not how people do it but why, if you take a look at our present situation some families barely make enough to get their children through high school.

Some families are too broke to afford three square meals a day. Without a doubt birth control is needed in our present society for us to provide the next generation a better future.

As your knowledge about Birth Control continues to grow, you will begin to see how Birth Control fits into the overall scheme of things. Knowing how something relates to the rest of the world is important too.

Stuttering Brain ? Explaining the Connection

August 27th, 2010 by Anders Eriksson

When most people think of Stuttering, what comes to mind is usually basic information that’s not particularly interesting or beneficial. But there’s a lot more to Stuttering than just the basics.

Stuttering may be hard to be dealt with by adults, especially when they can’t get the jobs that they want simply because they don’t have enough confidence or the right approach to be able to express their thoughts. But just imagine how this situation affects children who are only starting to spread their wings and socialize only to be ridiculed because of the condition that they have. Ones stuttering brain and words will have a great impact on one’s life if they will not get the proper treatment and actions to try and cure the condition.

On Your Mind

You may not consider everything you just read to be crucial information about Stuttering. But don’t be surprised if you find yourself recalling and using this very information in the next few days.

It may be amazing to see this condition being able to sing fluently, even read aloud with such ease and talk to oneself with not so much of fumbling. What does this prove? Up to this date, studies are still being conducted to strengthen the claims and proofs to relate one’s stuttering to something that has gone bad on their brains.

But is this really all on your mind? In Minnesota, researchers proved that more than the emotional anxieties that a person who stutters goes through, what gravely affects the condition are the irregularities in the composition and anatomical being of their brain areas which directly affect language and speech patterns.

It was also published on the scientific journal called the Neurology, owned by the American Academy of Neurology that there are evidences leading to the conclusion that the brain affects the speech patterns. They published the first findings about how the specific brains areas that are responsible for such patterns affect and puts the person at risk of developing the condition.

Different Studies

Specialists continue on finding explanations and solutions about the root of this condition. Anne Foundas, MD of Tulane University in New Orleans conducted a study. She tested 16 patients with unrelenting PDS or persistent developmental stuttering and 16 with controlled cases of stuttering. She used MRI scans for this purpose to measure these people’s brains. She found out that all patients with PDS have significantly bigger right and left temporal lobes and the shapes of their brains contain irregularities than with those who can control their condition.

Your Call

If you have a child who is suffering from stuttering, you cannot just sit comfortably at your homes while waiting for these studies to be completed. These studies can give evidences or might also strengthen the beliefs that you already have about the condition of your child. But you can help in your own way by observing and determining other factors which might worsen your child’s situation.

1. Look at their environment. Where do they usually go? How do people react to their situation? The way these people respond to your child will also affect how your child responds to them. So if you can still intervene to make the situation lighter and better for your child, then do so. It is your responsibility as a parent. And you will be helping your child in the process.

2. Observe their social skills. Your child might be feeling intimidated when associating with other people, especially those with strong personalities. Maybe you can make the process easier for them by preparing them as to what to expect once they have met with certain people with different attitudes and skills.

3. If the problem all lies in the stuttering brain, do your part in healing your child. If studies haven’t progressed that much about this field, you can opt for other ways like speech therapies and the like to control the situation while you still can.

What Parents Should Say When Handling Bed Wetting

August 27th, 2010 by Anders Eriksson

It is natural for parents to feel disappointed when their kids would have night time accidents, especially if the children have been full potty trained. But it is important to understand that this is common and your child is not an isolated case. Surveys have showed that 1 out of 5, five year olds would experience bed wetting.

Some parents may feel that this is very stressful, but it is more stressful on the child. It is not a child’s dream to wake up in the middle of night in wet pyjamas and soaking sheets. Understand that your child is not doing this to rebel or go against you. Over reacting about the incidents would only make the situation and the problem worse.

Here are some things that parents should say or do when dealing with their bed wetting kids.

? Reassurance is important. Children may be disappointed when they cannot control their pee. They may feel frustrated since they think that they are the only ones who are still wetting their bed. Bed wetting children may feel isolated at times, since they could not go to sleepovers or camps because of their bed wetting. Make your child understand on how common bed wetting is among children, it is just that most children are embarrassed to talk about it. You could even share a story of another bed wetting member of the family who was able to get over it.

? Keep your child’s self-image intact. During this stage, your child may feel that he has disappointed you and himself. Keep the accidental night time wetting in perspective. Motivate your kid to do better.

You can see that there’s practical value in learning more about Bed Wetting. Can you think of ways to apply what’s been covered so far?

? You could do some motivational peeing. This would involve your child visualizing himself getting up in the middle of the night and relieving himself. Cheer him up, you could drop a kiss and a word motivating him to stay dry through the night.

? You could also play pretend. There are some children who do not bed wet when they are sleeping in other homes which means that they cannot achieve the deep sleep in sleepovers. You could ask your child to pretend that they are sleeping in other people’s house and imagine that they would be dry in the morning. Eventually, the child would have dry nights at home when his mind and body connection matures.

? Never fall into the bad patterns. Avoid nagging your child about bed wetting.

? Having your child participate in sheet changing could surely make the process faster, however do not make sheet changing a sentence or a punishment. You could still involve then with sheet changing as long as they are up for it.

? Do not punish. Treat bed wetting as a no-big-deal. Do not scold or ground him from any activities. Kids would mature and eventually outgrow bed wetting. Just make sure that you make your child understand that you are meant on helping him stay dry.

? Maintain communication with your child. You may even be looking for a possibility of emotional stress as a cause of bed wetting.

Eight Myths About Acupuncture

August 25th, 2010 by Anders Eriksson

There are a lot of myths with regards to acupuncture. Some of these are true; others are silly while the rest only have a half truth. As you read on, you will learn which ones are worth believing.

The first myth is that acupuncture is painful. This is not true because those who have tried it claimed they only experienced a tiny prick while others did not feel anything at all. There is no tissue damage when the needle is inserted into the skin or pulled out and only in very rare cases are there traces of bruising.

The second myth is that you can get hepatitis or AIDS from acupuncture. This is true only if the needles used are not sterilized. In the US, this will never happen because acupuncturists are required to use disposable needles thus you are not at risk from these two diseases.

Third, acupuncture is used to treat pain. This is only a half truth because this holistic technique has been proven to do other things such as stop a person’s addiction, lose weight and prevent certain illnesses.

Fourth, there are some who think that Asians are the only ones that can practice acupuncture. Since 1982, there are already 50 schools all across the country that teach students about this technique and become licensed acupuncturists.

This means that anyone who has the desire to learn about this ancient practice can do so and help treat patients. Just to give you an idea, there are at least 3,000 acupuncturists now working in the US.

How can you put a limit on learning more? The next section may contain that one little bit of wisdom that changes everything.

Fifth, medical doctors do not believe in the potential of alternative medicine. This is not true because there are more doctors these days that are open to the idea that there are other ways to help patients aside from conventional medicine. In fact, some of them even recommend an acupuncturist if they know that what they have done is not effective.

Another myth is that every patient will undergo the four needle technique. This is not true and it will only be used when the specialist feels that the energy of the patient is virtually not moving as a last resort.

The seventh myth is that it is better for a medical doctor to perform acupuncture. This is wrong because the training is much different than that taught in medical school. Students who have an acupuncturist license train for 3,000 hours before they are allowed to practice this profession. So between an acupuncturist and a medical doctor, you should go with someone who has learned about this much longer.

The eighth myth is that acupuncture is only used in third world countries. This is not true because this technique originated in China more than 2000 years ago and this has spread to developed nations in Asia such as Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Malaysia.

Here at home, acupuncture been practiced for more than 2 decades and is legal in 30 states. In fact 22 of them, license professionals after they graduate once they pass the state board examination.

Although acupuncture has been around for a very long time, there is still a need for this form of holistic healthcare which is why this is being taught in colleges and in use today. It is painless and cost efficient and a lot of studies have shown that it is effective in treating various illnesses and preventing some of them.

Taking Control of Your Blood Pressure

August 24th, 2010 by Anders Eriksson

The best course of action to take sometimes isn’t clear until you’ve listed and considered your alternatives. The following paragraphs should help clue you in to what the experts think is significant.

Do you have problems controlling your blood pressure? Is it like a roller coaster ride? You do not have to worry any more. In this article you will find out how to take control of your blood pressure and have the healthy lifestyle you want.

As you may know there are many things that can cause your blood pressure to increase and many ways to decrease it and keep it that way. Your lifestyle will play a major role in this and even your race, age and family history.

You cannot change your race or age or history but you can still gain control of your blood pressure. African Americans are more prone to developing high blood pressure as well as people over fifty-five. You definitely cannot make yourself younger or change your color but that doesn’t mean you cannot control your pressure.

Having a healthy diet will have a major effect on your blood pressure. If you like eating salty foods this might be hard for you, but well worth it. Having high blood pressure can lead to heart and kidney disease as well as a stroke.

Try cutting back on any salt and sodium in your diet. Your doctor will probably recommend a certain serving amount or intake amount of sodium for your diet. Also try to eat more vegetables and fresh fruit. These will make you feel a lot better along with decreasing your blood pressure.

If your Blood Pressure facts are out-of-date, how will that affect your actions and decisions? Make certain you don’t let important Blood Pressure information slip by you.

Are you very active physical wise? Physical inactivity can play a huge role in high blood pressure. If you do not exercise regularly try to get in the habit. Thirty minutes a day is recommended but you can space the time out if needed. Do ten minutes here and there and before you know it, you’ve done thirty minutes of physical activity.

Do you smoke or drink? These will raise your blood pressure as well. Quitting either of these habits can be tough, but there are many helpful resources out there to help you. If you know you cannot quit right away, try limiting your consumption and use. Set a certain amount to smoke and drink a day.

Slowly lower the amount and before you know it you will be ready to quit. Try doing this along with medication or something that helps you quit. Doing small things like not being around anyone that smokes or drinks can help immensely. Also try replacing these habits with something else. If you get the urge to smoke or drink start doing something else you enjoy.

Do you have a stressful job or just a stressful lifestyle in general? Stress can increase your blood pressure. You want to find a way to de-stress and relax. Is there a certain hobby that does this for you? You might also try some relaxation techniques such as meditating, etc. Do this as often as you need to to help keep the stress away.

If you are still concerned about your blood pressure talk with your doctor. By telling them any concerns and asking any questions you might have, they can better help you find the best way to control your blood pressure. Sometimes medication works better than anything else.

Is there really any information about Blood Pressure that is nonessential? We all see things from different angles, so something relatively insignificant to one may be crucial to another.
